is for sleeping in.
is for spending time with friends.
is for having picnics in the den while watching a Barbie movie.
is for picking strawberries.
is for coloring.
is for baking cupcakes for no reason.
is for doing a bunch of nothing and enjoying it.

Weeds...
I hate them! I loathe them! I may just throw some gasoline on the flowers beds in the front yard and torch the darn things.
I took the opportunity (after much procrastination) on a beautiful, slightly cool (if you stood in the shade for too long) afternoon while Maggie napped to tackle our two flower beds. Sydney joined me with her side walk chalk, some pink lemonade, and her triceratops (appropriately name Triceratops) for some afternoon bonding. Now understand, when you have Sydney around there are lots of questions, jokes, questions, thumbs up breaks, questions, and the occasional freaking out if a bug comes within 50 feet of her. I answered her questions with "That's a good question" most of the time since I didn't know what kind of each of the 5,430,291,002 weeds that have decided to make a home in our yard. Oh well, it works for now.
Oh, I can feel the repercussion already. My shoulders...they ache. But, in between all the quirky conversations we had we did have a sweet...but short...discussion of how weeds are like sins. "SINS!?! Oh, Momma, that ain't good." We are working on the "ain't" thing but I chose not to direct our time towards that. I explained how sins can take over our lives like weeds take over a flower bed. Before you know it you have some major cleaning out to do. Then somehow that lead to littering and how we should take care of our earth. You never know where our little conversations will go when Sydney is involved.
I do feel good about a few things. One, it's done....for now....they'll come back...wait I'm trying to think of the good things. Two, I spent the afternoon outside in the beautiful weather. Come July, I'll look back to this day (when the thought of going outside makes you sweat) and say, "Remember that one day that it was sooo nice outside?" Three, Sydney was so excited to work outside. She pulled about 25 weeds and decided that raking was more her forte.
I don't want to go into the bad things about pulling weeds...there are a few. Pain, dirt, recurrence....not going there. Mulch anyone?

Haven't posted in a while and....
I have no excuse. Sorry.
I love fall. I love candy corn. I love pumpkins...that is to look at them, not to eat. I love my Harvest Yankee candle.
I love to dress my girls up in costumes. I spend way too much time on the computer looking for the perfect one. This year Sydney chose Princess Leia and I chose a pig costume. I'll pick the costumes as long as I can get away with it. I do like the whole Princess Leia outfit and even her purple light saber that her daddy bought her to complete the ensemble. She is way too excited. She is all about Star Wars right now and is dying to watch Revenge of the Sith but we think it's a bit too dark for her. Of course, she can't understand why we won't let her watch The Dark Knight either. She's way too naive....
Maggie's costume is too cute. The hat (if it will stay on) is adorable.
I love it! This year they get to wear their costumes two or three
times which is two to three times more than last year. I can't wait for our Trunk or Treat. We must do our annual trick or treat at the grandparent's house first.
Did I mention I like candy corn?

The Perfect Mix.
I was sitting this afternoon on the couch with Maggie in my lap and I couldn't stop thinking about how she looks so much like her daddy. Then I started thinking of how much she acts like me when I was that age (or so I'm told). So I decided to make a list of each girls and what they were so lucky to have received from their daddy and I. Here it goes....
Sydney
From her daddy-sits with her legs out, green eyes, love for super heros and reading, and imagination!
From me-small head, green eyes (we both have them), stubborn personality, and outgoing nature(I was very much so at her age)
Maggie
From her daddy-looks, looks, looks!
From me-hmmm...I've heard she acts just like me.
Sooo...we have one that looks like me, but acts like her daddy and the other one looks like her daddy but acts like me. How cool is that?

Family Time!
I always spend lots of time prepping for our annual summer vacation...making lists, running to Target, making another list, running to WalMart....and still end up staying up late the night before we leave packing. It's a continuous hustle until we unload at our beach house and then.....it happens....life just stops. The question for the whole week is beach or pool? Pool or beach? It really is nice to be so relaxed. Now, let me remind you that there are 17 people in this house...8 adults and 9 kids ranging from 15 mos. to 15 y.o., so the term "relaxed" is relative to the adult to kid ratio. Still, it is fun to see all the cousins spending this time together. I wouldn't trade this for anything....

My New Toy
Well, we did it. We made a decision after much deliberation (i.e. procrastination) and bought ourselves iPhones. It is exactly what my sister said it is....a nifty toy with a phone. Do you know how many apps there are to download? A bazillion! I've already filled up a page...facebook, ebay, Cooking Mama, Tap Tap Revenge, and the Bible are just some of them. Of course, Thad filled his up with the fart machine, gun app, and who knows what else. Check out this though....one of the cool things you can do with it.
We love to watch Maggie move (especially to Lynyrd Skynyrd)! Love the ending!

Emotional? Reasonable? Can't I be both?
What is it that makes a thief make you go through the same emotions as if someone close to you died? I started off shocked, then sad, then angry, but at the end of the day, all that is gone is STUFF. It could have been worse....they could have taken the CAR! Now, we have to (okay, don't HAVE to, but WANT to) replace our precious technologies that we so desperately have to be able to survive a ride in the car! I know...sounds ridiculous, but isn't that how we are these days?
Okay, this blog is being hijacked by thought and truth and reasoning! This was supposed to be a rant blog, a blog to justify my emotions of losing our possessions. This was supposed to be a blog that resolved my feelings. What happened?
